"The most beautiful road in the world"
Atlanterhavsveien - "The most beautiful road in the world". A unique road connected with spectacular bridges surrounded by the wilderness of the atlantic ocean. In our route, it lies between Trondheim and Bergen. It is 75 km long
- Atlanterhavsveien is a unique road connection between the municipalities Averøy and Eide. It is located in the area Nordmøre, district Møre og Romsdal. By car it is easy to reach either from Molde or Kristiansund.
- From Kristiansund: Follow state highway 64 through the tunnel to Averøy and follow the signs towards Molde.
- From Molde: Follow state highway 64 through Eide and on to Averøy.
- Since 1909 plans have been made to connect the island Averøy to the mainland. At that time railroad was considered best. But as the automobile became more and more available the railroad plans were put aside in 1935. In the 70ties, road project plans were made, and finally, august 1st 1983 construction started on Atlanterhavsveien. Now its considered as "The most beautiful road in the world" with its spectacular bridges surrounded by the atlantic ocean.
- To include this route into our journey from trondheim to Bergen, and to avoid taking ferries, the length would change from 750 km to 1100 km.
